Pilot Writing Instruments Warranty Policy

Thank you for purchasing a Pilot writing instrument. With over 100 years of experience in designing and manufacturing quality writing tools, we are confident you will appreciate the craftsmanship and performance of your product.

Pilot proudly guarantees its products against defects in materials and workmanship. If, upon inspection by our Quality department, a manufacturing defect is confirmed within the applicable warranty period, Pilot will, at its sole discretion, replace the product. Pilot reiterates that replacement will only be issued if a manufacturing defect is identified during product quality inspection by the manufacturer.

Pilot products are manufactured to meet strict quality standards and are tested using Pilot’s in-house inventory. Pilot is not responsible for performance issues that may result from third-party fulfillment, storage, or handling practices outside of our control.

Warranty Coverage Guidelines & Conditions

  • General Writing Instruments (includes Explorer, Iro-Utsushi Dip, Kakuno, Metropolitan, Parallel, Prera)
    • 2-year limited warranty applies only to products distributed by Pilot in the United States and purchased from an authorized U.S. retailer.
    • Warranty does not cover consumable items, including ink, ink refills, lead, or erasers. It also excludes damage caused by misuse, abuse, accidents, improper handling, normal wear, or excessive wear and tear. Bent, split, or otherwise damaged nibs are not covered and must be replaced.
    • Pilot reserves the right to verify all information submitted with a warranty claim, including requesting valid proof of purchase, photos, or additional details as needed.
    • Warranty claims may be denied at Pilot’s discretion in cases of suspected fraud or evidence of misuse or abuse contrary to our policies.
    • Pilot Pen may amend or terminate the Warranty at any time without notice.

  • Fine Writing Instruments
    These products are covered under a 3-year warranty from the date of purchase. Contingent upon submission of the International Warranty Card or proof of purchase. Bent, split or otherwise damaged nibs are not covered under the warranty and must be replaced.

    The products below are covered under a lifetime warranty from the date of purchase. Contingent upon submission of the Product Registration Card and proof of purchase.

    *Under this warranty, all Namiki writing instruments are guaranteed for life to be free from manufacturing defects. Wiping the interior of the pen cap with water or other liquids may remove the finish and is excluded from this warranty.

    Note: If your Fine Writing or Namiki product issue is determined not to be the result of a manufacturing defect, repair services may still be available for a fee.

    Returns or exchanges are only accepted within 30 days of the original purchase date. Please note this return policy applies only to merchandise purchased directly from the Pilot Pen website.

    Customers must include the original packing list, the reason for the return and if you prefer a replacement or refund. Refund will be based upon the price paid at the time of purchase. Your credit will be processed within 7 to 10 business days. Shipping charges are not refundable. Exchanges or returns of purchases made through our authorized retailers should be made directly with the retailers.

    All returned merchandise must be:
    • In “as new” condition
    • Un-opened
    • Returned in original packaging
    • Complete with all original materials
